The Pine Trees Classic is an annual youth event created by Andy Irons and Bruce Irons to give back to their local community at Hanalei Bay, Kauai.  The event, now in its 12th year, is strictly for unranked surfers who are very early in their surfing careers and just beginning to try their hand at competition. This year had record numbers, with close to 300 kids participating in the free event and many families lining the beach in support.

To really let the kids help to guide the event this year, Lyndie Irons invited the Hanalei Elementary School grades 1st-5th to submit original art to become the art used for the event. Using the chosen artwork of winner Stone Abubo, I isolated some elements and incorporated them into a photo of Pine Trees which became the poster. I also created a repeat pattern inspired by the original artwork that I designed into the hats and t-shirts for the event.
